Firefighter Anne opens beauty salon in Ede: 'Providing assistance in a different way'
'Dream come true'
The idea of opening her own salon did not come out of the blue. Anne has another passion. “Before I became a firefighter, I worked as a beautician in various places. I have always dreamed of having my own salon.”
Anne recently started working less at the fire department, because her and her boyfriend's schedules overlapped a lot. "That wasn't practical for our family. But I did think: now is my chance to open that salon." She does that in Ede, the place where the family moved from Amsterdam earlier this year.
Two different worlds
Anne does see a similarity in the two different fields of work. “You have a lot of contact with people. You actually provide help in different ways. In the fire department, it is always short moments of action and here in the salon you really work towards a specific goal.”
Anne focuses on treatments that improve the skin. “They are result-oriented. I like to see improvement in people with acne scars, rosacea or pigment spots. I also perform treatments against skin aging.”
The beautician does this with peelings, microneedling and laser therapy. “Our peelings are applied to the skin and then penetrate deep into the skin. The skin is stimulated to produce new cells faster, which means waste products are released faster. The peeling works from the inside out.”
Microneedling is a treatment in which small needles make minuscule holes in the skin. “You briefly ‘break’ the skin, which stimulates it to recover naturally.” Anne uses laser therapy to tackle deep scars on the skin.
Tattoo Removal
In addition to skin improvement treatments, you can also go to Skinmediq to have a tattoo removed. Anne does this by means of multiple laser treatments, depending on the size of your tattoo. “I thought that would be interesting to do, especially because I had one removed myself. That was the name of an ex-boyfriend.”

One moment putting out a fire or kicking in a door, the next moment treating someone's face. That's what life has been like for Anne de Beer (36) since the end of November. The firefighter opened beauty salon Skinmediq at Maandereind in Ede.
In the light space, the two fire helmets at the entrance immediately catch the eye. They refer to Anne's passion: the fire brigade. "They are my and my boyfriend's helmets and you don't usually see something like that in a salon. That does raise questions with customers," says Anne with a laugh.
